ARP 250-4202 Head Stud Kit
Adding head studs is the most important upgrade you can do to the Ford 6.0 Powerstroke truck. It's recommended that all stock and modified trucks install high performance head studs due to the very high susceptibility of early head gasket failure. The first step in your bullet proof 6.0 build.
These ARP studs 250-4202 are rated at 220,000 psi tensile strength, and provide the clamping force required to keep cylinder heads from lifting due to higher combustion pressures. The studs are manufactured in ARP's Santa Paula, CA plant from proprietary ARP 2000 material, with threads rolled after heat-treat to provide optimum fatigue strength. They are centerless ground to assure perfect concentricity. The ends of the studs are broached to facilitate easy installation. This feature also enables the cylinder head to be removed in tight quarters. Also included in each kit are heat-treated, chrome-moly steel 12-point nuts and parallel-ground washers. They are black oxide finished for extra durability. Made in USA
Premium quality heat-treated 8740 chrome moly steel. Head stud kits are available for most every domestic and import applications. On many street-driven vehicles, where master cylinders and other items protrude into the engine compartment, it's probably necessary to use head bolts so that the cylinder heads can be removed with the engine in the car. If everything is right, the stud should be installed finger tight. Then, when applying torque to the nut, the stud will stretch only on the vertical axis. Remember, an undercut shorter stud will have a rate similar to a longer, standard shank stud. This provides a more even clamping force on the head. Because the head gasket will compress upon initial torquing, make sure studs and bolts are re-torqued after the engine has been run.

ARP was the first company to design and engineer fasteners specifically for racing. We developed many patented process for manufacturing high strength fasteners from very strong materials. We have continued to improve our processes and quality control and we are now our manufacturing operations are ISO 9001 and AS9100 registered. There's not another company in the world that is as focused on building superior quality fasteners for all forms of racing and non-racing applications as ARP. In order to ensure optimum quality control, ARP has grown to be exceptionally self-reliant and now controls all aspects of the manufacturing process. All operations are performed in-house and closely monitored. This is how ARP has been able to establish a reputation for zero defects quality throughout the industry.
